This Ohio cross country runner is amazing! I hope the clip above works--it shows her nearly at the finish line, when her left leg breaks in three places, and, rather than forfeit the race, she literally crawls nearly 50 feet to the finish line! Amazing. She ran fast enough earlier in the race that she only came a few seconds slower than her PR--even w/ crawling that far to the finish.

I am so thankful for people like her, real people who are so inspiring, and to show me that I don't have it so bad with my little bone stress.

I'm not sure if you remember John Pierce from Groves, he graduated in 2003 -- but he passed away this weekend (by suicide -- it is really shocking and awful and terrible) and so I wanted to pass the link to the facebook group on to you:

Weekly goals and mileage

Week of July 14
Monday: off
Tuesday: 3 miles temp and much stops at Heritage
Wed.: awesome speed work! Broke two barriers: fear of running in massive lightening storm and two miles. Did 4.6 miles at average of 11.33 pace with interval speed work and best time was 6.5 minute mile.

Thursday: plan to do TNR 6 miles
Friday: go to Heritage park 4 miles (NO Stopping for photos until done!!)
Saturday: out of town--
Sunday: beach running-- 4 miles

Week 4:
Monday: 4 miles PLT
Tuesday: 3 miles PLT
Wed: 2 miles PLT
Thursday: 2 miles PLT
Friday: sports massage

Nutrition Plan:

water, water and more water-- at least 4-5 bottles a day
NO pop nor glass of wine nor any other alcoholic beverage
Orange juice after run

cereal, pasta, skinless chicken, baked white fish, spinach salads, low fat pudding, sports gel-- no fried, fast, or greasy food.
Lots of fruits-esp. banana for potassium and strawberries (because I love them)

and, of course, absolutely no nasty smoking and try to avoid places with smoke-- Ha, that's really easy in Royal Oak!

After race? Ah, indulge ;)

Training log for 2008 Bayshore

Last full April week: Tuesday: 6 miles w/ Lou wed: none Thursday: 3 miles w/ Robbie Friday: none Saturday: 8 miles Total: 16 miles April--May 4 Sunday: 0 Monday: 0 Tuesday: 6 (yeah-- Lou pulled a Jackie!) Wed: 3 miles-- speed work- Yeah! did 4 miles- improved speed-- short bursts at 8 minute miles recover 11-12 minute miles--averaged 11 minute for the 4 miles Thursday: 6 miles w/ TNR-- we are doing zoo route--might do LSD 8-- only did 4 with my friend Andre Friday: none, none, none-- Saturday: 11 miles at Stoney-- post run massage!-- did 11.40 but not post run massage Total that I hope I do: 26-28 Total I actually did: 25.4 week of 5-11 Did run at all-- parent teacher conference week and start of newspaper deadline. I was a bad, bad girl Saturday May 11-- ran 13 miles-- An odd new technique of actually running the entire race miles as the long run only two sat. before the half marathon. Coach Ken is so awesome. He recreated race situation--w/ water stops and even a "finisher ribbon" at the end. Jackie and I did come up with a new swear word: "Ken". We did this because of all the hills-- the God Ken Kenning hills we kept having to huff up. But really Ken is a coach who clearly loves his job. He had to map out the race ahead of time using parking lots because Stoney closed off the usual bike path we run on. He is the most committed coach I know--even if he does scare us a little bit. Total miles planned to run: 31 Total miles ran: 13 This week up to May 16: Sunday: 3 miles lsd, did not do this-- started getting sore throat and fever. MOnday none-- stayed in bed very sick, fever, weak, much ice cream and sleeping. Tuesday 6 lsd miles-- did 0 miles still sick and deadline with newspaper-- spent hours grading articles. wed.3 speed. Did it! HA!! A red letter day! I did what I thought was impossible: I woke up at 5 and by 5:30 I was running-- ran over 3 miles before work!! Thursday May 15 8 miles: did 5 miles TNR with some speed work Long run on Saturday-- 8 miles-- did 8.5 miles-- but I brought my camera and took so many photos of oriels, wheat grass, lake, fisherman, tree corridors that it was certainly not a real training run, but lovely and enjoyable. Total miles planned: 22 Total miles actually did: 16 Week after: taper down sunday-- 2,-- very sick--the return of the sore throat, stuffy nose and fever is worse than the original! monday 0 Tuesday 4, Wed. 3 (speed work) Thursday-FRiday-- none Saturday: RACE!! 13.1 miles! (May 24?)
