I have not been blogging but I have been running. Did this year's Detroit Free Press Race with only a few hours of sleep after a Halloween party as princess Leia so kept some of the costume on... I think the powers of Leia helped me-- I ran a 5K PR-- as Veronica said: "You took off and you just kept going!!!"
I followed the flag for the 8 minute pacers and did the race in an average 9 minute mile. For most runners I know that's practically sleeping not racing but for me that is a Keynon pace. Veronica knows that my average training pace is 11 minutes, so she could tell I was going quite a bit faster than our usual TNR.
Okay--here's why I am back to blogging:
As this is the lent season, I am feeling the need for humility and full disclosure:
I am not training consistently.
Let me define not training consistently:
Training three times a week and taking three weeks off.
Training one day, one really good RUN and then patting myself on the back for a week until I run again.
I have this feeling, though, that if I DID train consistently I might actually not need the Powers of Leia to run a 9 minute mile consistently.
So, here I am, publically flogging:
Last weeks mileage:
Sunday: ran to my car from my house with Robbie dragging behind me (.9 miles)
Monday: Nothing
Tuesday: Ran a bit over 4 miles-- 10.58 average pace
WED: NADA at deadline till late
Thursday: TNR ran 4 miles-- 10.15 average pace
Friday: NADA
Saturday: Planned to run with team. Nope, overslept. Ran midday instead. 4.5 miles 10.11 average pace.
Total Mileage: 13.4
Here is what I am susposed to have run to train for the Bayshore:
Sunday: 3 miles
Monday: None
Tuesday: 5 miles
Wednesday: 3 miles
Thursday: 6 miles
Friday: None
Saturday: 7 miles
Total mileage: 24
This week so far:
Sunday: NADA-- sleepy day
Monday: 4 miles (Don't remember average pace)
Tuesday: Left work early, back pain (oh that's an interesting story--Let's just say Corktown race this year after little training nearly killed me)
Wednesday: Awesome fun playing/learning Tennis with a French club friend. We then ran a little over 4 miles-- don't remember the average pace--about mid 10's.
Thursday: 3.5 miles (give or take a bit) don't remember pace.
Oh Thursday, Thursday-- what a day--- started out with a ticket for running a red light then--between parking my car at work, teaching, and walking back to my car--I somehow lost my car keys. Searched everywhere and finally had a friend drive me home to get my spare car key. Pulled into TNR as everyone stretched in the free lot on 4th street.
Post run stretching.
Mohamed was kind enough, after he finished running, to run another 3 or so miles with me!
Friday (that's today) I am not running-- will consume some carbs and pick up my camera from Best Buy (yes--finally fixed. So glad I bought that even if you drop it warranty:)
This Saturday: Martian 10K-- the aliens will finally find me. Here is my sincere and determined goal. I WILL DO THIS!!!
Run the Martian 10K no slower than a an average 10.09 pace-- 09 for the year.
Here is my running plan: mile 1-- 11.3, mile 2- 10.5, mile 3-- 10.20, mile 4-- 10.05, mile 5 9.5, mile 6 9
Oh crap. I just realized I am no good at math. I have NO idea what this plan averages out to.
Okay Thanks to my friend Geoff, a social studies teacher, we just majorally changed the above figures to make it average out to 10.09 pace. I am uniquely mathmatically disabled. I do believe the left side of my brain ate up the right side when I was born.
All right-- so off to lunch in 2 minutes-- yes folks, that's LUNCH at 10:05. Ah the time zone of a teacher. I plan to eat some good carbs.
